Hi! Welcome back to my blog! As you know, I have been writing about inspirational people for the past 2 weeks, which included Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Tubman. Today, I am going to be writing about Abraham Lincoln.
Abe Lincoln was born on 12 February 1809 and was the 2nd child to his parents Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Growing up, he lived on a farm which his dad owned, and he lived with his older sister Sarah, his father, his stepmother, and his step siblings. Living in Kentucky, he did not have a lot of access to education, and he was mostly self-educated. I think that is pretty incredible. He then moved to Illinois when he was older, and served as a captain for the Black Hawk War. After trying many different careers, he started giving inspirational speeches all around Illinois because he wanted to create change. At that time, he was also a lawyer.
After learning about slavery, Abraham then started to give more speeches in order to help everyone acknowledge the evils of slavery. He had a truly spectacular vision for the future, which was to abolish slavery. Quite remarkably, he became the 16th President of the United States and in 1863, he signed the Final Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves.
The reason I find him so inspiring is because of his courage and wisdom. Abraham Lincoln obviously had a lot of courage to do all of the work he did as a lot of people had different views, but it required a lot of wisdom as well. He had the wits and wisdom in order to truly create a huge impact. What I truly admire about Abraham Lincoln is the positive impact he created, and how his courage and wisdom led to the first of many reforms towards equality.
