Exploring Greece: The Impact of Kindness on Travel Experiences

Home sweet home. After a long and fantastic summer vacation, I am now home and awaiting the new school year. However, I haven’t written since Italy, and after that, we visited the highlight of my trip, Greece. So today, I’m going to be telling you all about the places that I visited in Greece, and what made them so special.

The first place that we visited in Greece was Chania, Crete. It was said that Crete was the birthplace of the twin gods, Apollo and Artemis, and they therefore protected the island from harm. It was a lovely city. We went to a village near the seaside, and it was amazing! There were a ton of shops that were selling bags, dresses, jewellery, souvenirs and more. Crete was also known for its orange juice and we had fantastic fresh orange juice!

One of my favourite things in Chania was the bubbles we played with. In one of the squares, there were two people using long sticks with a bamboo thread tied to the edges to make bubbles for all the kids and people to play with. My older cousins (Aneesh & Mihika), little sister (Saanya) and I all went and played with the bubbles. To me, it was such a fun experience getting to play with these giant bubbles in the middle of the square. What was even more amazing was that they weren’t expecting much from us, and yet did it with huge smiles on their faces, showing so much kindness and joy, doing something that would make so many children happy.

The next place that we went to was Santorini. This was also an incredible experience. We got to visit a ton of villages and places in Santorini, and it was stunning! It was gorgeous with the classic cobblestone streets, white buildings, bright blue doors and bougainvillaea. However, one of my favourite things about Santorini was the people. One example of that was our driver. We had a planned itinerary, but he decided to show us a lot more than the original itinerary, and it was fantastic! We all really appreciated the kindness and generosity that he showed.

The final place that we went to in Greece was Athens! One of my favourite places that we went to in Athens was the Temple of Poseidon. Positioned on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, it was gorgeous! It was also shocking how the original base stood for over 2,500 years. I found it to be fantastic. One of the other highlights of Athens was, of course, the Parthenon that stood upon the Acropolis. It was spectacular getting to see the most well-known temple of Athena and the most famous Greek temple in the world.

As you know, I love beautiful quotes that are impactful and something that I believe is true and can resonate with. One quote that I found today that I thought I would share with you is one by Pittacus Lore, “A place is only as good as the people you know in it. It’s the people that make the place” I really like this quote, and I feel that it is really true. All of these places were beautiful, but they wouldn’t have been as special without the people. Chania wouldn’t have been as special without the bubbles. Santorini wouldn’t have been as special without our driver who agreed to take us around everywhere. Kindness had a huge impact on our vacation, and I am so grateful. Since that vacation, it made me realise how significant kindness is, and how important it is that we continue to spread compassion and joy everywhere we go. I hope you continue to not only receive kindness, but also spread compassion and generosity wherever you go.
