Hi! Welcome back to my blog! This week, I am going to be talking about teachers. In my view, teaching is a very noble profession. Teachers help students grow and thrive. They help them become the best they can be. For students, teachers are people they can rely on and depend upon when they are at school. Teachers can also be role models for students.
There are many reasons why I really appreciate teachers. One of those reasons is that my grandmother used to be a teacher in India for 35 years. I have heard a lot of stories from my grandmother about teachers and how they help students, which has partly shaped my perspective.
I also love my teachers at school. Every single one of my teachers in the past has been amazing, and I have loved every single one of them.
This year is no exception. In fact, I interviewed my advisory teacher, asking her questions about her perspective and thoughts about teaching. She gladly replied to my questions, and she had a lot of interesting things to say. I first asked her how she decided on teaching as a career. She said that when she was a little kid in Elementary School, she would play a game and pretend to be the teacher. When she was in college, she was studying to be a teacher, and she had an internship over the summer. At that time, she was teaching a high school student in an ELA class, and when she taught the student something new, she felt that it was really fulfilling.
I also asked her what she likes about being a teacher. She said that she loves being a teacher for many different reasons. She likes being productive, giving opportunities to her students and learning new things as a teacher. She also likes being a lifelong learner, and being curious. I absolutely love that, because I think that is really important in life.
In fact, Nikos Kazantzakis once said “ True teachers use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own “. I think that quote is amazing, because it really explains what the best teachers do. Teachers are an important part of life, and I suggest that all of you ensure that you express gratitude and appreciation towards your teachers.
